This is ceremonial harpoon, lavishly carved, probably used for the first kill of the season. Unfortunately when they launched it, it missed the animal and hit something hard. Part of the top section that holds the point was gone. But, they saved this part. In the picture above there are two heads each representing a wolf. It is beautiful black fossil walrus ivory. It is so special that I made it into a pendant or wall hanging with a braid of red buckskin. In the next pictures you will be able to see the two wolf heads. I have been looking at this piece with a loop and am in awe of what kind of vision and control the ancient maker had to do such fine detail.
It is 4″ x 1.25″
