Carved Mammoth Hip Bone

This is a mammoth hip bone from the Pleistocene Epoch came from the top of the Yukon River.  A friend of mine would go up the river and search for Mammoth Ivory.  When he couldn’t find any, he would bring back bone and I would buy it so he could make another trip.  It was dangerous and expensive.  I caved this forty years ago and always loved it! It weighs about fifteen pounds or more.  The bone has a percussion fracture in the upper left hand side from someone hitting it with something heavy a loooong time ago.

It would be a nice piece for a coffee table or mantle.  It is 23″ x 12″ x 9″
